Merging traffic in already congested areas creates traffic jams and safety concerns. Those who drive along our I-5 from Highway 99W to I-205 project area know about frequent merging and weaving.
Part of this project creates auxiliary lanes to separate on- and off-ramp merging from through traffic. An auxiliary lane already exists from the Hwy 217 off-ramp to the Lower Boones Ferry Road on-ramp. This project extends that auxiliary lane to I-205 to improve safety and traffic flow along I-5. This means less weaving and merging, reducing congestion in all lanes. This project will also improve on- and off-ramps and repair deteriorating pavement along I-5 from Highway 99W to I-205 in both directions.
